Waterfront Home, Hamble, Hampshire

This is the first phase of the refurbishment of this quayside home in Hamble-le-Rice, Hampshire.  A complete redesign of the first floor of two previously separate properties resulted in a large, open-plan kitchen, dining and living space.  Views and natural light have been maximised, with finishes were carefully selected to take into consideration the extraordinary light and to manage glare from the sun.  Powered remote-controlled window treatments were specifically chosen to manage the solar glare while still maximising the natural light and maintaining the views across the harbour.

The kitchen is a bespoke painted timber kitchen with a door design we created especially for this client.  With careful planning of the storage cabinetry and layout, artwork shelving with specific lighting takes the place of wall cabinetry, creating a beautiful backdrop to the room and ensuring the kitchen doesn’t dominate this multi-use space.  From the expansive island with bar seating, the view across the room follows the axis of the dining table and seating area.

All parts of the room enjoy the views across the River Hamble, with the sitting area having the longest views south towards The Solent, and sofas arranged opposite each other to create a comfortable area for socialising.  The use of an ‘art frame’ TV and ceiling loudspeakers (linked to networked audio) means the TV isn’t always the focal point of the room, although it’s still positioned for perfect viewing, even from the kitchen.

Alongside, upholstered panelling in horsehair provides a beguiling backdrop to a dedicated study area, completing this exceptional riverside living space.
