I visited the FutureBuild show in London earlier this month. I was there to chair a panel discussion on technology in interior design, although it also offered a chance to source sustainable products that could be used in our interior design projects.
Here are some of my interesting finds from the sustainable products on show:
Graphenstone paint – this is a natural mineral-based paint, bound with graphene rather than chemicals. I’m keen to try this more sustainable option and I’ll be sampling soon to test it out against other paints.
The Journal of Biophilic Design – lovely to meet Vanessa and find out more about her work and journal on biophilic design and sustainability. Biophilic design can be so powerful, and I’ve subscribed to her beautiful publication.
Troldtekt acoustic panels – low-impact acoustic panels. These are made from sustainable wood wool, and could be really interesting to use for wall or ceiling cladding, with decorative options too.
Accoya timber – a modified timber product for long-life use. We’ve used this for external windows and doors before, and it was great to understand more about this alternative to hardwood. From a sustainability point of view, the crucial point is that the lifespan of Accoya is longer than the time it takes to grow the original timber.
Overall it was a great show, and really inspiring to see a selection of suppliers and products that can be used in interior design, brought together with a strong focus on sustainability and on improving the decisions we make during construction.
