It’s great to be able to finally share with you some of the fabulous interior design products that were on show at the London Design Festival at the end of September. There’s a huge variety of new and wonderful products on show – this is just some of the most interesting things from the week.
I’m starting here with a look at 100% Design – now in its 20th year. I’ll be adding some more posts later about Tent, Design Junction and Decorex.
Lighting products and the work of international designers are always well represented at 100%, and this year was no exception. Korea’s NJ Lighting exhibited a beautiful range of softly translucent porcelain lamps and fittings:
Optelma Lighting displayed some of the latest LED technology in decorative fittings which can be plastered into interior surfaces for an invisible finish:
For something rather different, Mineheart had their ‘King Edison’ pendant. This is actually a doll’s house chandelier that’s been wired with minute LEDs, and then enclosed in a glass bulb fitting. It’s a wonderful thing, and the mini chandelier is even available in a range of finishes!
Part of the Original BTC group, Davey Lighting launched a stunning range of new pillar lights. Using solid glass rods, these fittings diffuse the light and also produce a beautifully subtle and luxurious effect:
From bright fittings to bright colours, Lucy Turner was showing her new cabinetry on fabulous designs. An up-to-date take on marquetry, these are produced using laser-cut laminates, and can be customised to clients’ schemes and colours:
Why not match one of those with a radiator or towel warmer from Eskimo? They have a range of unusual radiators and towel warmers which are also available in fantastic colours, including the “Ron’ range:
Anne Kyyro Quinn produces wonderful designs in felt that can be used for anything from wall panels to furniture to accessories. We used some of her cushions in this London interior design project in Hampstead to add colour and texture to a muted Scandinavian scheme. Her stand showed an amazing range of different styles and applications:
It’s always good – well, essential – to have a sit down during these exhibitions, and Pinch Design‘s new ‘Goddard’ sofa was a perfect and stylish opportunity to do so:
The most comfortable moment of the show though was Bill Amberg‘s new ‘Corral’ chair for Case Furniture. This is a really indulgent armchair to fall back into, and not somewhere I wanted to leave in a hurry:
Unusual finishes and materials can often be found at these exhibitions. Moko showed their range of “vertical sculpture” – timber panels for vertical surfaces in a range or great designs:
And concrete continues to be an area of innovation for new designers and interiors products. Bentu Design had a large range of furniture and fittings fashioned from this material, including a wonderful table incorporating an area for planting:
Lowinfo use concrete in many applications too, and they displayed a wide range of basins. These looked quite fantastic with the yellow Vola brassware. You can see where we used Vola fittings in chrome in our London interior refurbishment in Hampstead. Lowinfo have a standard range and can produce bespoke basins too:
For a more luxurious finish, Frassk machine their stunning wall-hung basins from solid blocks of marble:
And although most of the exhibition attracts contemporary design, there’s still a place for something more traditional in the bathroom – Porter Vanities had these exquisite vanity cabinets on show:
This is just a small taste of the 100% Design exhibition, and come back for updates from the other London Design Festival events: Tent, Design Junction and Decorex.
Next year’s 100% Design exhibition is at London’s Olympia from 23rd to 26th September 2015.
