I visited the new London hotel from the Mondrian group last week, on the Southbank between the OXO Tower and Blackfriars Bridge.
As it’s located in the existing Sea Containers House building, the work of designer Tom Dixon is focused mainly on the interior design, but even from the outside his renovation of the building makes a huge impact.
A nod to its past, a huge copper-clad ship’s hull is propelled out from the reception and into the street:
It follows through the reception, which is peppered with sculptures, objets and maritime artefacts among the (un)usual lobby seating, and guides visitors around to the restaurant:
But for the best view of the Thames and right across London you should head up to the Rumpus Room cocktail bar at the top, where the panoramic views are spectacular. Although probably better enjoyed at another time of the year. This photo is from the New York Post’s visit:
I hope you get a chance to visit!
